Military Tuition Scholarship

By becoming a proud Bronco, you are joining a large campus population of military connected students. 30% of students attending FSU are military connected! In fact, many of our faculty and staff, to include senior leadership, are also military connected. Whether you are active duty, a veteran, military spouse, or family member, we recognize your service and we thank you for choosing FSU to meet your higher educational needs.
Scholarship Summary
The purpose of the military scholarship is to reduce significant financial barriers for military connected individuals pursuing an undergraduate degree at Fayetteville State University.
Q: Who qualifies for the Military Tuition Scholarship?
A: Active duty service members with no access to DOD Tuition Assistance; members of the National Guard or Reserves; veterans with an honorable discharge; military spouses of active duty service members or veterans; children or other recognized legal dependents of an active duty service member or veteran. You must be pursuing an undergraduate degree and enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits.
Q: What if I qualify for DoD Tuition Assistance?
A:If you are Active Duty and you qualify and have access to Tuition Assistance (TA), you will be required to utilize that benefit first. If you no longer qualify for TA, you are eligible for the Military Tuition Scholarship at Fayetteville State University.
Q: What if I have the Post 9/11 (Chapter 33 or 33T) GI Bill? Do I still qualify for the Military Tuition Scholarship?
A: No, the scholarship eligibility does not apply to Post 9/11 recipients. If you no longer have this benefit, then you may apply for the scholarship.
Q: What if I have the Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) benefit? Do I qualify for the Military Tuition Scholarship?
A: No, the scholarship eligibility does not apply to Chapter 31 (VR&E) recipients. If you no longer have this benefit, then you may apply for the scholarship.
Q: Does the scholarship cover online classes?
A: Yes, the scholarship covers both online and in-person classes.
Q: What if I want to pursue a certification or a graduate degree. Will this be covered by the scholarship?
A: No, the scholarship is limited to undergraduate degree seeking students only.
Q: What if I already have a degree but I want to pursue another one? Can I still use the scholarship?
A: Yes, so long as you are pursuing an undergraduate degree at FSU. You are still eligible to use the scholarship regardless of if you hold other advanced degrees.
Q: Are non-degree seeking students eligible for the scholarship?
A: No. To qualify for the scholarship, students must be in an undergraduate degree seeking program.
Q: Is the scholarship open to continuing students?
A: Yes, continuing students are eligible to apply.
Q: Are DoD (Department of Defense) civilians eligible for the scholarship?
A: No, scholarship eligibility does not extend to DOD civilians.
Q: How many credit hours are required for the scholarship?
A: As a scholarship recipient, you must enroll in at least 12 credit hours, per semester, to maintain eligibility.

A: The deadline to complete the scholarship application is March 31, 2024.
Q: What steps do I take to apply for the scholarship?
A: You must first apply and be accepted to the university. Next, complete the FAFSA by CLICKING THIS LINK. Next, complete the Military Tuition Scholarship application by CLICKING THIS LINK. You will be asked to provide proof of military connection. Approved documentation can be any of the following:
- Current military orders
- VA Certificate of eligibility
- DD214

Q: What if I am a spouse or child of a veteran and do not have a military ID card?
A: Please provide a copy of the veterans DD214 and another legal document proving you are legally connected to the veteran (ex: marriage/birth certificate or taxes showing you are claimed as a legal dependent).
Q: Does the scholarship cover the entire cost of my education?
A: No, the scholarship only covers tuition. It does not include housing, dining, fees, books, etc.
Q: Is the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) a required component of my application?
A: Yes, the FAFSA is required, along with any requested materials necessary to finalize the financial aid process. To complete the FAFSA CLICK HERE.
Q: Is the scholarship renewable?
A: It is an annual scholarship, but you MUST apply each year and continue to meet the requirements mentioned above.
Q: What other information should I know about the scholarship?
A: There is an exception to our policy for certain VA educational beneficiaries. Students with Chapter 30, Chapter 35, and Chapter 1606 benefits are STILL eligible to apply for the Military Tuition Scholarship.
