Catastrophic Failure
05.14.08
Colleagues:
Some of you may have already seen your old mail, calendar, tasks, and contacts restored. Unfortunately, this process is a very time consuming one and we have to process few mailboxes at a time because of the size and volume. Each mail box for every mail account takes approximately 40 to 50 minutes in average and we have close to 1000 mail boxes. IT Staff are working continuously to finish this process. Most of the mailboxes will be restored without making a visit to your office, but for 30 or 40 people we will either come by your office or remotely login to your machine and perform the restore process.
Again, thank you all for your patience and we will continue our work on this until every mail box is restored.

ITTS has brought up the email servers to allow emails to be sent and received. Old emails have not yet been restored. ITTS is continuing to recover email data from tape backups. As the data is recovered it will be moved in to the appropriate mail boxes. In the meantime, email will function as usual.
05.07.08
The data is currently being restored from backup.

There was a catastrophic failure of the storage unit that hosts 90% of faculty and staff e-mail. The failure occurred Thursday evening. Attempts to recover the storage unit have failed and a new unit is on order and will be shipped overnight. Our technicians continue to work to recover e-mail services
We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with:
