The Job Location and Development (JLD) Program is a federally funded program designed to assist student with part time employment and is administered by the Office of Career Services at Fayetteville State University. The goal is to provide with a source to students to secure off- campus employment regardless of their financial aid eligibility. The institution is allowed to use part of the funds from the Federal Work Study (FWS) program to fund the JLD program. The JLD program is centered on creating real-world work experiences for students to increase self-knowledge and develop marketable skills. This program will provide a solid foundation for securing career options for students entering the world of work. The JLD Coordinator develops and maintains a listing of part time and temporary position submitted by local businesses.
The following are procedures for currently enrolled students to apply for part-time, off-campus jobs through the Office of Career Services.
The Job Location and Development (JLD) program assists enrolled students to obtain part-time employment in Fayetteville, NC and surrounding areas. Job listings are posted on the bulletin board outside the Office of Career Services and on the Bronco Career Link for Students located in the student section of the Career Services website.
Students who are interested in obtaining a referral for a job listing are required to follow these steps:
1. How do I find a job?

• Click on Students
• Then click on Bronco Career Link for Students
• JLD coordinator sends out periodic job alerts to JLD eligible students
• If you are having difficulty locating a position, then please contact the JLD Program Coordinator

3. Am I eligible to participate in the JLD Program?
To be eligible for the program you must not be receiving any work study financial aid
4. What types of jobs can I get through JLD?
JLD students work in a variety of employment settings such as offices, restaurants, day care centers, camps, hotels/ motels and retail store positions to include administrative office assistant, camp counselor, promotion assistant, sales associate and many more.
5. Do I need to let any one know if I get hired?
Yes, the JLD Program is in part a federal funded; therefore in order for our office of Career Services to continue providing this service to students it is imperative that we collect hiring information from both students and employers. This information provides evidence that supports the conditions of the program.
6. Will JLD employers work around my class schedule?
JLD employers do take into consideration your commitment as a student; however, please keep in mind that their first priority is meeting the needs of their company. Before accepting and position, discuss the employer’s expectations of you and your responsibilities as an employee. Be sure that you understand the terms and conditions of your employment, such as salary, work hours and duties. Remember that time management of your work and class schedule is essential to your college success.
7. May a school employ FWS and non-FWS students as staff in the JLD Program?
Yes, the prohibition against using JLD funds to locate and develop jobs at any school does not include hiring students to work as staff for the JLD Program itself, because the JLD staff jobs were not located and developed with JLD Program funds.
8. Under the JLD Program, may the school locate and develop jobs for students to obtain upon graduation?
No. The program locates and develops off-campus employment opportunities for students during and between periods of school attendance.
9. Does the JLD Program have a requirement similar to the one for the FWS Program that jobs, to the maximum extent practicable, complement and reinforce students’ educational programs or vocational goals?
Yes. Under the JLD Program, jobs located and developed must be suitable to the students’ scheduling and, to the maximum extent practicable, must complement and reinforce students’ educational programs and vocational; goals.
10. Can the jobs located and developed under the JLD Program be full time?
Yes.
11. Who will interview and hire me?
The JLD Program acts as a clearing house or referral service. Its puts students in touch with local employers who need part-time workers. Therefore, all interviewing and hiring is done by the employer in accordance with their own needs and hiring practices.
