Welcome to Fayetteville State University, a constituent institution of The University of North Carolina and the second-oldest public institution of higher education in the state. FSU was founded in 1867 as the Howard School for the education of African Americans. Today FSU serves a growing student body of over 6,000 and ranks among the nations most diverse campus communities. FSU has gone through several recent renovations. In fact, in anticipation of growth, three quarters of FSU’s 39 buildings that compile the 92-acre main campus have been newly renovated.
