Fayetteville State University – Math Education Faculty Position

 

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Fayetteville State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education position (pending funding). The anticipated employment date is August 2009. Fayetteville State University is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina and the second-oldest public institution of higher education in the state. Founded in 1867 as the Howard School for the education of African Americans, today FSU serves a growing student body of over 6,500 and ranks among the nation's most diverse campus communities.

 

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers programs leading to degrees of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Bachelor of Science in Mathematics -Secondary Education, Master of Science in Mathematics and Teaching Mathematics (in conjunction with the School of Education in the university).

 

Applicants with a PhD in Mathematics Education or a PhD in Mathematics are preferred. ABDs may apply, but they will be considered only for an instructor position. The successful candidate will have strong background in Mathematics Education, strong commitment to teaching, ability to teach mathematics at all levels, and effective communication and interpersonal skills. Responsibilities of faculty include teaching a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics education, mathematics and statistics, research and publication, and service to the university and to the community. Other duties may include working with pre-service and in-service K-12 mathematics teachers. Salary and rank are negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
