Young Ladies Compete for the Title of
Miss
Fayetteville State University

NC, March 20, 2002 - The 11th annual Miss Fayetteville State
University Scholarship Contest: Disco Nites will be held on
Saturday, April 13, 2002 at 8:00 PM in the Capel Arena of the
Physical Health and Recreational Complex on the campus of FSU.
This year's
competition promises to be entertaining and exciting!
Miss Fayetteville State University,
Tai Irby, a senior from
Charlotte, North Carolina, will relinquish her crown to one of the
fourteen beautiful, poised, and sophisticated young women competing
to be the next Miss FSU. The
contestants competing for the crown are: Sonia
Blanks, Tiffany Carmichael,
Joni Covington, April
Cox, Natesha Daniels, Andrea
Harris, Katera McCorkle, Vatisha
King, Natasha McMillan, Jo-van
Nicholas, Yvonne Richmond, Thomika
Segar, Monique Singletary, and
Aretha Ward.
To be eligible
for the competition, each contestant must possess a high scholastic
average and be in good standing with the University.
The contestants will compete in five categories: interview,
athletic wear, self-expression, formal wear, and the student vote.
Gayle Nelson and
Ricardo Morgan will serve as the mistress and master of ceremonies
for the competition. Gayle
and “Ricky” are veteran emcees with a great deal of pageant
experience. One can
find Mrs. Nelson on the air at WZFX Foxy 99.1.
Ricardo, an FSU alumnus, serves the Cumberland County School
System as Director of Theater-Arts at Westover Senior High School.
As in previous
years, the crowd-pleasing opening number will feature the reigning
queen, contestants and competition dancers.
A host of exciting entertainment will also be showcased
throughout the evening. This
stylish tribute to 1970’s Disco will surely be a gala affair.
