 RESIDENTIAL LEARNING COORDINATOR FAQ SHEET

 

 

  1. Who can apply to be a RLC?

All RLCs must hold at bachelors’ degree from an accredited university and must be accepted to a program of post graduate education at either the masters or doctoral level at Fayetteville State University.

 

  1. Do I have to have an undergraduate degree from Fayetteville State University graduate to apply for RLC?

No.  The RLC position is a competitive position.  The Department of Residence Life is looking for the best candidates to fill the position regardless of previous university or agency affiliation.

 

  1. What do the day-to-day responsibilities consist of?

RLCs serve as a resource for RAs and Hall Officers in assessing the needs of residents and planning activities as well as maintaining accurate hall incident records and policy violations.  RLC’s also maintain flexible and regular office hours on a weekly basis and assist with room assignments and coordination of the student check-in check-out process.

 

  1. Is it required for a RLC to stay on campus?

Yes.  It is required the RLCs reside on campus in the residence hall that they are assigned.

 

  1. What types of credentials must a RLC possess?

RLCs must be able to manage and run a residence hall to include monthly reports, implement programs and department objectives, and interact positively with students, their staff and administration.  RLCs must also establish themselves in the residence hall as an academic, professional and goal orientated role model. 

 

  1. What are the benefits of being a RLC?

RLCs are afforded the opportunity to begin their professional career and advance their education concurrently.  Upon graduation RLCs will have the advantage of having two years of work experience over all other graduates in their field of study.  RLCs will be members of professional state and regional organizations that will give them opportunities to meet and network with other colleges, universities and businesses.  Additionally RLCs are paid a competitive hourly wage and are allowed to reside on campus in an apartment suite free of charge.  

 

  1. Are there additional responsibilities of the position?

RLCs must conduct one educational program per month that focuses on their are of academic study/interest.  The will be additional responsibilities per the request of Fayetteville State University and/or Department of Residence Life administration.
