The Ethics of Humor

Description:

Students will explore the definitions of humor, the art of creating humor, and the ethical issues that humor can raise in oral, written, and visual texts. What is humor in written and oral texts? What literary devices are most commonly used in creating humor for a variety of genres? What ethical issues commonly surface with regard to using humor? What is the role of the audience? Students will have the opportunity to examine these questions and to create their own humorous expository vignettes and critiques.
