Chancellor James AndersonDr. James A. Anderson
Chancellor

Dr. James A. Anderson, who comes to FSU from the University of Albany in New York, began his duties as Chancellor of the state’s second-oldest public institution on June 9, 2008. The appointment was made by Erskine Bowles, President of the 17-campus University of North Carolina System.

Before coming to FSU Chancellor Anderson served as the University of Albany’s Vice President for Student Success and Vice Provost for Institutional Assessment and Diversity. He also was a professor in the department of psychology.

Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff

In July 2008 Dr. Thomas Conway joined the Fayetteville State University (FSU) community as Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff. In that capacity he is charged with ensuring that the vision of Chancellor James Anderson for FSU is effectively implemented. Coordination of the chancellor’s staff and with the other vice chancellors and their units is essential in this role.

Prior to his appointment at FSU Dr. Conway served as Dean of Undergraduate Academic Programs at North Carolina State University.

Dr. Jon YoungDr. Jon Young
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

A part of the FSU family for nearly 28 years, Young began his career as an Assistant Professor of Humanities from 1981-1988. He was promoted to an associate professor in 1988 and to full professor in 1994. He served as chairman of the Department of Humanities from 1989-91. From 1991-94, Young was acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences before being named Director of the University College, a position he held from 1994-2001. Before taking over the helm as Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, he served as Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs since 2005.

Arthur AffleckAttorney Arthur G. Affleck, III
Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement

Mr. Affleck came to FSU from B&C Associates, Inc. where he served as Senior Vice President for Operations. Prior to that role, Mr. Affleck’s assignments included serving as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Bennett College, Vice President and Campaign Director at Hampton University and as Vice Chancellor for University Advancement at Winston-Salem State University for four years.  He also spent seven years as a program officer at the College Board.

Mr. Robert BotleyMr. Robert L. Botley
Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance

Prior to relocating to North Carolina in 2004, Mr. Botley served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Edmonds Community College in Lynwood, WA;  Budget Officer at Snohornish County Community College in Everett, WA; and Finance Cost Analyst and Industrial Engineer with The Boeing Company in Renton, WA. Mr. Botley also served his alma mater, The University of Puget Sound, as Assistant to the Dean of Students.

Dr. Janice HaynieDr. Janice Haynie
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Dr. Haynie previously served as Vice President for Student Affairs at State University of New York (SUNY) College at Old Westbury. Her responsibilities included providing divisional leadership and vision to a comprehensive range of services, procedures and practices related to student affairs and co-curricular development.

Before joining SUNY College at Old Westbury, Dr. Haynie served as Associate Dean for Student Development at Morehouse College where she oversaw a variety of student life initiatives. While at Morehouse College, Dr. Haynie’s department received the President’s Annual Points of Light Award for volunteer community service for the Morehouse College Mentoring Program.

Mr. Nick GanesanMr. Arasu "Nick" Ganesan
Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Telecommunication Services

Mr. Ganesan began his IT career in Higher Education as a Systems Analyst at Embry Riddle University and held a variety of positions, both Academic and administrative. He ended his tenure there as the Executive Director of IT, responsible for all technology operations, in 1998.

During his tenure at Embry-Riddle University, Daytona Beach, Nick and his team were awarded EDUCAUSE's "Excellence in Network" award in 1995. From 1998, Nick served as the Director of IT Infrastructure Services at Stetson University, Deland, FL. In November, 2001, he accepted the position as the first Chief Information Officer at Fayetteville State University. As Vice Chancellor and CIO, Nick oversees the division of Information Technology and Telecommunications Services that supports the academic and administrative operations of the university.
