January 2013 - The Second Half!

Happy New Year! I hope that this finds you having enjoyed an amazing Holiday Season with family and friends. Moreover, I hope that you are well and rested and ready for the second half of your senior year!

The second half of anything always allows you another opportunity to move forward with your game plan or perhaps even change your course of action.  So I ask, "What is your game plan?"  "What is your plan of action?" "What have you mapped out for yourself for the next several months?"  My hope is that a visit to FSU is a part of your plan of! If you have not visited the campus, it is a must as you narrow down your college choices.

Here in the office of admission, our second half consists of creating fun and engaging opportunities to reach out to you! (Hence, my Happy New Year Blog to you!) For example, our Spring Call Campaign is on the near horizon. We think that it is a wonderful way for you to speak directly to students and faculty. Also, our plans are already underway for our Spring Open House scheduled for March 23, 2013. (Be on the look-out for additional information in the coming weeks!) You will have a chance to see FSU faculty and staff up close and personal. In addition, you can find out for yourself what makes us so special. You may even be able to put a face to a voice! :)

In the second half, we are also steadily sending out merit scholarships to students who are academically eligible! So, please make sure that we have your most up-to-date test scores and mid-year grades!

Lastly, and the most important thing that the office of admission is gearing up for is to officially welcome you to the Bronco Family! We hope that as you move through the semester you decide that FSU is the place where you want to start the next phase of your academic journey!

As always, feel free to contact us at 910.672.1376 or admissons@uncfsu.edu with your questions. We are happy to help. Enjoy your second half!

With every good wish, I am

 December 2011 - Time Flies!

Greetings from Fayetteville State University...Bronco Land as we like to call it! Can you believe that it is December already? Short time (only weeks, really) left and then the holidays will be upon us! My, how time flies! Perhaps this is how you feel about your Senior Year...Where has the time gone? You are almost at the end of the first semester. In fact, in December you will be at the halfway mark to your official sojourn across the stage to become a bona-fide high school graduate. Goodness, just yesterday it was your freshmen year! J

Believe you me...time is moving quickly at FSU as well. We had an amazing semester. The 2011 FSU Homecoming (which we welcomed our native son, J Cole in concert), has come and gone. Our new Mr. FSU, Ervin Brinkley, a Senior Business Administration major from Enfield, NC was just recently crowned, we had one of the most productive Fall Preview programs in years, at Winter Commencement we graduated 524 new FSU Alumni and most exciting, after careful consideration the International Education Office confirmed that the 2012 Summer Honors Student Study Abroad Program would be traveling to India! If selected as a Global Scholar (must have a 3.5 GPA & 1000 critical reading and math SAT) you too, could study abroad...at little to no cost!

As time quickly scurries by I hope that you are and have been actively engaged in the quest to find your rightful place in the world upon graduating. You ask...actively engaged? Well, that means that you are still putting forth your best effort to ensure a strong academic showing for this semester. You have studied and prepared for the SAT's and/or ACT's. In fact, you are signing up for more than one because you only don't want to be admissible to the University of your choice...you want to be scholarship competitive. Now, if you have missed a step or two or slightly behind in the process, no worries...my office can officially stop time to assist you! J Okay, well...we really can't stop time (lol) BUT we can be and most assuredly are available to assist you with your FSU college application process. Please feel free to call us at toll free 800.222.2594 or email us at admiss@uncfsu.edu with your questions.

As you continue to enjoy the cool, crisp air of the fall months...remember, although time may be moving quickly, try hard not to let it just slip away! J Happy Holidays!

With every good wish, I am

April 2011 - Take Action!

"Res Non Verba"... Deeds not Words! Having been at FSU for about 26 months, this simple yet powerful motto still amazes me. Why? It is a straightforward way of saying "take action!" or rather "do the work!" and when you do, the results will follow. For me, it means a variety of things...eat healthy, have a balanced life, love what I do and do what I love.

For you...it could mean a host of things (perhaps some of the same reasons as mine) as well...but for the purpose that we find ourselves on my blog :-) ...it means, "it's not too late!" If you have not taken your SAT/ACT... "take action!" If you have not filled out a college application...¨it's not too late!¨ If you have not started the process of filling out your FAFSA... ¨take action!¨

Now, as you settle into the spring semester and finally realize the last months of your senior are before you...don't get overwhelmed. These are moments that you will always cherish. But remember, you still have things to accomplish. In the office of admissions at FSU we are here to help you accomplish those things. We want to help. We want to assist you in your college application process. We want to encourage you to become a Bronco! We want to share the exciting things that are happening on our campus with you.

How can all of this be possible, you ask? First, it starts with the application. Go on-line...it's as simple as 1-2-3. Submit your official transcript. Submit your official test scores. Submit your essay. And if you mention this blog, I will waive your application fee (offer only applicable for the Fall 2011 semester). It's easy. You can do it. Don't delay. TAKE ACTION...DO THE WORK.

If you have already applied, and been accepted. Awesome! We want you to visit the campus. We want to assist you in firming up your plans to make FSU your home away from home over the next four years. When you are making plans to attend, make sure you bring a friend! We love introducing FSU to interested students. Oh and don't forget to complete your FAFSA...this is an important part of your process.

Let your deeds, let your actions, let your work lead you to FSU...where it's all about U! Res Non Verba...Deeds not Words!

With every good wish, I am
