Satisfactory Academic Progress

Satisfactory Academic Progress To maintain eligibility to 1) re-enroll at the university and 2) receive financial aid, students must make satisfactory academic progress, which is defined at Fayetteville State University on the basis of grade point average, Students are evaluated for satisfactory academic progress at the end of the Spring Semester each year, at which time students must have earned at least the minimum GPA specified below.

If your total number of quality hours is:

You must have a minimum GPA

Students whose attempted hours (including all transfer hours) exceed 180 may re-enroll if their GPA is 2.0 or higher, but will be ineligible for financial aid.

Students who do not meet these minimum eligibility standards at the end of the spring semester will be placed on academic suspension and will be ineligible to enroll and receive financial aid in the next academic year unless they earn the minimum required GPA in Summer School or successfully appeal their suspension to the Appeals Committee (see procedure below). Students seeking financial aid for summer school must make their application according to the guidelines specified above.

After the first suspension, a student may re-enroll at the university and restore financial aid eligibility after one semester of non-enrollment. Such students must apply for readmission and for financial aid according to the guidelines included in the “Admissions” and “Financial Aid” sections of this catalog. Students suspended for a second time will be permitted to re-enroll only if they appeal successfully to the Appeals Committee (see procedure below). If the committee approves a student for re-enrollment, the student will be eligible for financial aid.

Students are expected to remain aware of their academic and financial aid status. While the Office of the Registrar will attempt to notify students if they are on Academic Warning, Probation, or Suspension, failure to receive such notification is not justification for failing to meet the minimum criteria or submitting appeals by the appropriate deadlines.

Appeal Procedure

Students should address their written appeals of academic suspension and financial aid ineligibility to:
