How to find us

Many music performances are held either in Seabrook Auditorium or in the Rosenthal Building, which are buildings adjacent to each other at the corner of Murchison Road and W.T. Brown Drive at the main entrance of the campus. The Rosenthal Art Gallery is located in the Rosenthal Building. Parking for both buildings is located behind Seabrook Auditorium.

Most of our theatre performances take place in Butler Theater, which can be accessed on the first floor of the G.L. Butler Building at the heart of campus. Sidewalks lead up from the parking area to the breezeway connecting the two halves of the Butler Building.

Parking for Butler Theater is available in the lot adjacent to the Butler Building and the Chestnutt Library at the junction of W.T. Brown Drive and Administration Drive.

Greetings

From the Chancellor
James Anderson

Chancellor Anderson Dear Friends of the Arts,

Welcome to another wonderful and exciting season of performing and fine arts at FSU. This promises to be one of the best years we have had in terms of providing Fayetteville and the surrounding region with top-rate performers, musicians, and artists. Dr. Earnest Lamb, chair of the Department of Performing and Fine Arts, and his outstanding staff have gone to great lengths to ensure a dynamic season.

From the Chair
Dr. Ernest Lamb

Dr. Ernest LambThe highlight of the series will be the Holiday Spectacular! featuring famed storyteller Mitch Capel along with a children’s choir formed from area schools. Featured exhibitions appearing in the Rosenthal Gallery are Textile of Unity and the biennial Faculty Exhibition. The internationally acclaimed jazz singer Dianne Reeves is the featured performer for Opus II in April. Be sure to get your tickets early for Opus II and support the scholarship endowment for students in the Department of Performing and Fine Arts. The tag line for the Department of Performing and Fine Arts is “Building Community through the Arts.” The faculty of the department have written articles, which appear in the following pages of Ovation!, that demonstrate their commitment to this vision

June-July 2012

Sweet Tea Shakespeare Company (STSC), a new summer theatre project in Fayetteville, will present William Shakespeare's raucous and moving comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, and Oscar Wilde's hilarious tale of misbehavior, The Importance of Being Earnest, outdoors this summer at Cape Fear Botanical Garden. The project, headed by Jeremy Fiebig, Assistant Professor of Theatre at Fayetteville State University, emerged from planning over the last year with partners at the FSU Foundation, Cape Fear Botanical Garden, Gilbert Theater, the FSU Fine Arts Series, and local theatre artists.

Both productions will be presented at Cape Fear Botanical Garden. Much Ado About Nothing runs June 27-July 1 at 7pm nightly. The Importance of Being Earnest runs July 18-22 at 7pm nightly. Audiences are encouraged to bring their own seating, from blankets to lawn chairs, for a fun-filled evening of theatre. Food, beer, and wine will be available for purchase each evening at the Garden and chairs will be available to rent.

Audiences of all ages are encouraged to come enjoy the performance and the Garden each evening. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $16 for CFBG members, $15 for children age 6-12. Children 5 and under are free. Admission includes entry to enjoy CFBG on the evening of the performance as well. Group rates and picnic packages are also available.
