Archive Course
NOTE: Backups of the entire Blackboard System are
done regularly. However, it is a good idea to "archive" your courses
regularly throughout the semester. "Archiving" a course
includes all student interactions (discussion board entries,
quizzes, grades, etc.) to that point during the semester.
"Exporting" only copies course content and should be used to store
the basic content of a course (without students, etc.).
Restoring the Blackboard System from a backup
changes ALL content for all courses in the system to the point in
time when the backup was performed. A "system restore" is a
last choice option and affects all courses.
Archiving/Restoring a course can be done on an individual course
(course by course) basis, however, faculty are responsible for
archiving their courses regularly.
To
backup individual discussion board threads that have been posted,
you should open the discussion forum in your course, and click on
the “show options” tab on the right side of the screen. Next, click
the “select all” button and then click the “collect” button. This
will display all of the discussion threads for that forum on one
page. Select all of the text and then click “copy”. Open up a word
processing program such as Microsoft Word and then “paste” the text
into a new file and save it somewhere on your computer. Or, if
you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat, you could print the
pages to a PDF file.
