The Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (FSU-RISE)
Sixth Annual Research Colloquium will be held March 14, 2008
at Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, North Carolina.
This event will be a joint venture with the Math/Science Education
Center at Fayetteville State University. Students who have conducted research in behavioral, biomedical, and
math/computer sciences are encouraged to submit an abstract. All
abstracts are reviewed for poster presentations. Please read the
following items carefully as they are critical to the abstract
preparation, submission, review and acceptance process.

Eligibility
- Any student who has conducted behavioral, biomedical, and
math/computer sciences research may submit an abstract.
- ONLY STUDENTS can be presenting authors for poster
presentations.
- ONLY FACULTY can be presenting authors for oral presentations.
- ONLY ONE STUDENT can present one abstract.
- Duplicate abstracts submitted by different authors are not
allowable and will be automatically rejected.
- FSU-RISE Colloquium welcomes abstracts that have been
submitted to another conference. However, the requirements for
preparing an abstract as well as the selection criteria for FSU-RISE
may differ from other conferences. Be sure to prepare an abstract
that is appropriate for FSU-RISE Research Colloquium.
Role of Research Adviser and Program Director
- Student’s research advisor must give permission to submit an
abstract. Be sure to seek his/her permission prior to submitting
the abstract.
- Program Directors and Research Advisors will be discouraged
from coaching or speaking during the student presentation.
Guidelines for Preparing Abstract
- Abstracts will be reviewed for acceptance to FSU-RISE Research
Colloquium. Be sure to adhere to all guidelines and review
criteria. Proofread your work prior to submission.
- Abstracts must have more than one author. Abstracts with only
one author are not allowable and will be automatically rejected.
- Authors must be listed in the following order: the first
author is the presenting student, the second author is the
student’s research advisor; all other co-authors, if appropriate,
are to follow. Co-authors may be other students, faculty members,
or program directors.
- Abstracts will not be edited by the FSU-RISE Research
Colloquium staff. Typographical and grammatical errors appear as
submitted. Proofread your work prior to submission.
- Abstract rejections are final. There is no appeals process.
Guidelines for submitting Abstract
- Email your abstract to
svallen@uncfsu.edu.
On line submission is not available.
- Complete and obtain signature from the advisor/PI.
Incomplete Affirmation Statements can delay the acceptance of you
abstract.
- For The Affirmation Statement (click
here to download Affirmation Statement) and submit to the
FSU-RISE Office by February 29, 2008.
- All submissions must be received by 12:00 midnight Eastern
Standard Time on February 22, 2008.
- Late submission will not be accepted.
- Submission of an abstract does not equal registration. You
must register to attend the FSU-RISE Research Colloquium.
- A confirmation of receipt of an abstract does not equal
acceptance to the FSU-RISE Research Colloquium.
Guidelines for Acceptance
- Once the reviews are complete, an email will be sent to all
authors whose email address were included during the abstract
submission process; indicating acceptance or rejection of the
abstract.
- When the student have been notified of the acceptance of
his/her abstract, he/she must
report to the Capel Arena at 8:00 a.m. on March 14, 2008 to set-up his/her poster.
- Abstract rejections are final. There is no appeals process or
opportunity to resubmit.
Before Submitting Your Abstract
- Read and Complete the Affirmation Statement and obtain all
signatures.
- Type the body of your abstract in as a word document in single
paragraph using Times New Roman, 12-point font and single
line spacing. Attached the file to email address that comes up
when you hit the submit abstract button.
- Make sure each author email address is on the bottom of
the abstract.
- Do not indent the paragraph.
- Do not include a table of contents.
- Do not include tables, graphics or charts.
- Keep within the 2500 character limit (this does not include
spaces).
- Be certain BOTH your research advisor and/or Program Director
have reviewed your abstract.
- Collect email address for all authors on your abstract
(including your research advisor) and place it at the bottom
of you abstract.
- DO NOT use the same email address for all authors.
- If you participate in other programs, enter your Program
Director address (mailing and email) in the additional information
Section.
Affirmation Statements
You must check the required affirmation statement to confirm that
you understand and agree to any requirements set forth in order to
have your submission considered for presentation. The affirmations
are:
- I have read the Call for Abstracts in its entirety and
understand the necessary requirements to have my abstract to be
accepted to the FSU-RISE Colloquium.
- The project described in this abstract is my work.
- The research advisor/Program Director has read my abstract and
given me permission to submit it.
- My research advisor’s/Program Director’s name will be included
in the author block.
- All co-authors are aware that their names will appear on this
abstract.
- By submitting this abstract, I agree to present my abstract,
if accepted, during my assigned session.
- If accepted for poster presentation, I agree to place my
poster in the assigned area for the entire time allotted for
reviewing and remove my poster at the time specified.
- As the presenting author, I will keep the colloquium staff
informed of any changes to the contact information provided. Agree
