The mission of the Department of Chemistry and Physics is to support the missions of the College of Arts and Sciences and the University by providing a nurturing learning environment that prepares students for careers in government, industry, and education, as well as for pursuing further study in graduate and/or health-related professional schools. The Department offers Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry and Bachelor of Science Chemical Engineering (BChE) as a 3+2 Dual Degree Program in conjunction with North Carolina State University, as well as minor and service courses in the physical sciences that prepare graduates in career-ready skills of analytical reasoning, scientific literacy, effective communication, and professional ethics. The Department serves a diverse student body, including military and international students, through effective teaching, active scholarship, and service-learning activities. Graduates of the departmental programs will become productive citizens that will promote the educational, economic, and environmental well-being of North Carolina, the nation, and the world.
