Department of Communication, Languages, and Cultures (CLC)

The Department of Communication, Languages, and Cultures is an award-winning department with award-winning faculty.

Seven-time winner of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Department of the Year.

 

We specialize in teaching a wide range of communication and language courses, focusing on hands-on experiences and professional training for our approximately 110 student majors. The Department oversees state-of-the-art facilities, including the student newspaper, radio station, a TV studio, and modern production computer labs.

 

What We Offer:

The Department of CLC is dedicated to students at Fayetteville State University who are pursuing their academic and professional goals in Communication or Language Studies. We offer the Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Media Studies and the Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish and Spanish with Teaching Licensure (K-12). Students may also select among Minors in Communication, Spanish, and Chinese Language and Culture. We also offer a new Certificate in Spanish Language Proficiency.  The Department is a premiere educational resource for students by offering high-impact, excellent instruction and degrees with opportunities for hands-on, practical experience, effective advising, service-learning, and internship opportunities. The Department is committed to producing graduates with practical skills and knowledge that prepare them both for successful graduate study and the work force.

We strive to fulfill the vision of FSU by becoming a driving force for educational, cultural, social, and economic transformation in Southeastern North Carolina and beyond by producing graduates with practical communication and language skills and expertise that prepare them both for successful graduate study and the work force, and by providing the campus and surrounding community unique student-based media programming and events, including those organized by student radio (Bronco-iRadio), student newspaper (The Voice), student television (Bronco TV), the Hispanic Club, and the Spanish Honor Society (Sigma Delta Pi).

UNC Language Exchange: In an effort to expand language offerings for our students, the Department of Communication, Languages and Cultures maintains an active partnership with the UNC Language Exchange.  Through The Language Exchange students may choose from a number of available language courses from any of the participating universities in the UNC System.
