About the Office of Research Initiatives

Mission

The Mission of the Office of Research Initiatives' (ORI) is to assist in establishing a strong research record for each College of Education faculty member in a disciplined, sustained, and focused inquiry that impacts practice and professional thought in the educational community. We hope to accomplish this by (1) providing a space in which research activities are highlighted, supported, and nurtured; (2) being responsive to faculty research interest and connecting them to research needs at the local, state, and national levels; (3) assisting faculty and students in obtaining support for research projects; (4) serving as an advocate for the value of research in and educational setting; (4) enhancing the importance of campus-based research; and (5) encouraging its use to enrich the field of education.

About the Director

Dr. Noran Moffett

Dr. Noran L. Moffett is the Associate Dean for the College of Education and Professor of Educational Leadership and Administration. Noran is the son of a deceased World War II veteran, the late Rev. Moffett, who retired as a school cafeteria manager.  Noran was honorably discharged from the United States Army.  He never loses sight of the purpose for which he came to the profession of teacher education- CHILDREN. He is proud of his humble origins as a first generation college graduate, who actually worked as a school bus driver in college.

Dr. Moffett's passion and commitment to teacher education includes action research for school leaders and teacher educators, history of education in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, educational leadership, transformational leadership in higher education and P-12 education for improvement of student success, and preparing teacher education candidates to meet the highly qualified requirements for certification in teacher education. Noran seeks to consistently build permanent bridges between theory and practice for P-12 and Higher Education educators committed to children in diverse schools and communities. In addition, Dr. Moffett's presence in the field of education includes a recent election as President-Elect of the Georgia Educational Research Association (GERA), which is an affiliate of the American Association of Educational Research Association (AERA), membership in The International Society of Educational Planning, American Association of Blacks in Higher Education, and the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration (NCPEA).
Noran has also been appointed as Co-Chair of the 2013 Summer Conference Planning Committee for the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE).
