Teacher Education Summer Accelerated Program

The Program

Teacher and students

The Teacher Education Summer Accelerated Program (TESAP) is designed to allow teacher education students to advance their degree at an accelerated pace by registering for core courses, through both summer sessions. Over the summer sessions, students can earn 18 semester hours by enrolling in core courses therefore advancing their completion by a semester. The goal of this program is to enhance the productivity of teacher education programs at FSU, particularly by producing teachers in high need areas of middle grades, secondary education mathematics and science, special education, and elementary education with concentration in content areas of mathematics, science, and special education.

Target Populations

Students enrolled in the following majors or licensure only programs are targeted to participate in TESAP.

Elementary Education K-6 (with second concentrations in Mathematics, Science, or Special Education)

Middle Grades Education -(Mathematics, or Science with a concentration in Special Education)

Secondary Education (Biology or Mathematics)

M.A.T. Degree and NC TEACH Alternative Licensure Only Program participants (Special Education and Middle Grades or Secondary Mathematics and Science)

Eligibility Requirement

College of Education majors in one of the target population groups classified as a junior or second semester sophomore or alternative degree or licensure students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) or NC TEACH programs.

Financial Assistance

TE  L.E.A.P.  Scholarship - Eligible students will receive the TE LEAP Scholarships to assist with summer school tuition and textbook fees.  To be eligible, students must be in one of the licensure areas targeted by the program, a NC resident, and attend one TESAP information session during the spring.  The LEAP Scholarship will be used to pay the difference between other grants and total cost of the program so that students will not be required to secure loans.  The maximum scholarship amount ranges from $1,600.00 for undergraduates to $1,900.00 for graduate students.

The cost of attendance for summer school is $1,600 for undergraduates and $1,900 for graduate students. Participants in the Teacher Education Summer Accelerated Program who seek financial aid to cover expenses beyond tuition, fees, and books may apply for loans up to the cost of attendance based on their eligibility.

Course Schedule

The Teacher Education Summer Accelerated Program is designed for delivery through both distance learning and face- to-face courses.
Juniors and sophomores will enroll in core courses  which are pre-requisites for admission to teacher education. Juniors and sophomores will also participate in PRAXIS I tutorials to meet admission to teacher education requirements.
