EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Prior to earning her Ph.D in Informatics from the University at Albany, State University of New York, in 2010,Dr. Baker spent more than a decade working as a reporter and writer for weeklies and dailies in upstate New York. She also worked as a researcher for Long Island Newsday and also wrote stories from the capitol bureau. Dr. Baker received her bachelor’s degree from the Roy H. Park School of Journalism at Ithaca College.

Her graduate work in Informatics was interdisciplinary and included the creation, packaging and distribution of information. Her primary focus was research about technology in government as well as communication and new media. Throughout graduate school Dr. Baker was a researcher for the Center for Technology in Government, a research institution affiliated with the University at Albany. She has also taught classes in mass media at the University at Albany and Siena College, a small private college in upstate NY.

Dr. Baker’s research interests span the use of technology as a communication tool between government officials and citizens as well as the intersection between traditional mass communication outlets and social media. She has published several articles examining the use of technology in government as a team member at CTG and has co-authored a book chapter about the 2004 campaign of Howard Dean for the United States Presidency.


TEACHING COURSES Her courses include Intro to Journalism, Newswriting and Reporting I & II, News Editing, Community Journalism, Layout and Design, and more.
