EDUCATIONAL
BACKGROUND
|
|
Dr. Eugenie Almeida
earned her Ph.D. in Communication at the University of Buffalo.
In her graduate studies, she acquired expertise in both
quantitative and qualitative research approaches including
survey research, content analysis and critical cultural
approaches. She specializes in theories and methodologies
designed to study language and social interaction such as
discourse theory and analysis, conversational analysis, and
ethnography. Dr. Almeida has taught a wide range of
courses in Interpersonal Communication, Organizational
Communication and Mass Communication. Previously, she taught at
other universities including the University of Minnesota/Morris,
Drexel University and Marshall University. Dr. Almeida has been
teaching at Fayetteville State University since 2001. |

COURSES |

Her courses include
Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, Media Writing,
Group Discussion, Argumentation and Debate, Organizational
Communication, and Intercultural Communication. |

| RESEARCH |
|
She has also performed
research in the area of communication competence and an article
is forthcoming in Communication Education. She regularly
presents her research at conferences and is an active member of
the Southern States Communication Association where she is
currently Chair of the Division of Language and Social
Interaction. |

| PUBLICATIONS |
|
Most of
her published work are discourse analyses of newspaper language
and include articles in Text, Texas Linguistic Forum,
and Carolinas Communication Annual. |
