About the Program
We are proud to offer a unique blending of sister disciplines in
an effort to provide the FSU community the best possible program in
Communication. The BA program in Communication consists of a ten
course core and two tracks or concentrations. Students can choose
either the Mass Communication track,
with its emphasis on practical industry-related courses and
experiences, or the Speech
Communication track, with its emphasis on professional and
personal communication skills.
The curriculum is designed for the 4-year student:
45 hours in the College Core
ü30 hours in the Program Core
ü21 hours in one of two program
tracks
ü6 hours of a foreign language or
equivalent
ü18 hours in an optional minor or in
electives
ü120 hours total

*Students in the Mass Communication track should take COMM490 and
students in the Speech track should take SPEE490, which may be listed
as SPEE420 instead
Major Requirements Step Two:
Students then decide upon a concentration:
Mass Communication Track:
Take any 15 hours of COMM electives (those not already required)
and select one 3-hour cmomunication internship course
Speech Communication Track:
Take any 15 hours of SPEE electives (those not already required)
and select a one 3-hour communication internship course
Don't forget about the 6-hour foreign elective requirement!
