Summer Internship - 2009 Admission Application

Five-Week High School Rising Senior Summer Research Internship

The Five-Week High School Rising Senior Summer Research Internship will be held from June 29th - July 31st, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily (Monday – Friday). The activities will include:

  1. conducting 5-week long research in applied mathematics, computing, biomedical/biological sciences, education and physical sciences,
  2. intensive SAT/ACT preparation,
  3. inquiry-based instruction in advanced algebra and geometry,
  4. instruction in reading and writing using a service learning approach, and
  5. STEM career workshops and field trips to research laboratories. CPSER is funded by Title III at Fayetteville State University.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a rising high school senior with an interest in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physical sciences.

Program Benefits: Selected applicants will receive a stipend of $500 for participating in the CPSER Summer Research Internship. In addition, meals (provided daily) and the cost of all field trips or other campus activities will be covered for each participant.

Application Process: The application for admission can be obtained from the CPSER office, 329 Lyons Science Annex. All required material (application, letters of recommendation, essay, and transcripts) should be submitted with the application. Two letters of recommendation are required from persons qualified to evaluate your academic qualifications are required (ex., former teacher, etc.). You should solicit recommendations from individuals who are familiar with your academic ability and can address your potential for success in academic and research settings. Recommendations should be returned to you (in a sealed envelope with their signature over the flap) and submitted with all required material.

Application Forms

Transcripts: Applicants must submit a current official transcript for all high schools attended.

Essay: Applicants must submit a one-page essay explaining your career goals and how participation in the Summer Research Internship will benefit you in meeting those goals.

Deadline: Applications and all requested documents must be received no later than Monday, April 27th, 2009.
