Dr. Lorenzo M. Boyd is a former Deputy Sheriff in Boston Massachusetts, and has over a decade in law enforcement and corrections experience. Dr. Boyd also served as a Senior Researcher at the North Carolina Juvenile Justice Institute at North Carolina Central University, where he conducted program evaluations on local community based juvenile justice intervention programs.

 Dr. Boyd's doctoral research explored the attitude differences between Black and White police officers regarding non-life threatening, and quality of life issues.

As coordinator of the Master of Science in Criminal Justice program at FSU, he is the academic adviser for students in the program and is the primary contact for persons interested in applying to the program.

Dr. Boyd was the recipient of the 2007 Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Minorities and Women Section's "Evelyn Gilbert Unsung Hero Award," the Northeastern University Diversity Fellowship (1999-2000), and the “James E. Blackwell Fellowship in Applied Sociology” (1996-1997) at the University of Massachusetts Boston in conjunction with the Boston Chapter of the NAACP.

His research and teaching interests include urban policing, race and crime, criminal justice systems, diversity issues in criminal justice and criminological theory. With varied interdisciplinary research interests, he has a passion for community outreach. Dr. Boyd is also a proud and active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.
