DeValve, M

Michael's publications and current research are in the area of justice organizations, particularly regarding the cultivation of compassion, organizational change, diversity, and organizational learning.  Michael also nurses a side-interest in the area of terrorism and its prevention through the cultivation of compassion, but his focus is on the cultivation of compassion in justice organizations and among justice professionals. 

Michael considers himself to be a facilitator of knowledge, both in the classroom and in his research in collaboration with criminal justice agencies.  He has worked in the criminal justice field in numerous areas, including museum security at the Strong Museum in Rochester, NY and evaluation research for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Michael continues to build research relationships with criminal justice agencies, particularly in order to assist the provision of an effective, equitable and nurturing  justice service.

Michael also acts as the faculty advisor to the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice. He is also the chair of the Campus Safety Committee.  He is an active member of The Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, The American Society of Criminology, and The Peace and Justice Studies Association.

Michael and his father are  members of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.

On October 16, 2007, Michael was honored to receive Dharma Transmission from Master Trung Quang Nhat Hanh (Thich Nhat Hanh), of the 42nd generation of the Lam Te Dhyana School.  Michael's dharma name is "Profound Commitment of the Heart".  He offers thanks to all beings, especially to Thay and the monastics of Plum Village, Deer Park and Blue Cliff Monasteries, particularly Brother Antonio (Phap Nanh).  John, Emily and Bill, thank you for all you have done and will do.
