Dr. DeSandra Washington became the first graduate of the Higher Education concentration in Educational Leadership since its launch four years ago. The department saw a need to include individuals who were currently working in a higher education setting the opportunity to obtain a doctorate degree to further enhance their careers. Dr. Washington is Director of Counseling Services at Fayetteville Technical Community College. |
The Department of Educational Leadership strives to inspire students to exhibit high standards in research and academic engagement. This year, the Honors and Awards Committee added the dissertation award to their list of honors for the doctoral candidate whose research addresses current and emerging issues affecting education. Based on the evaluation criteria for the dissertation award, the department was honored to submit Renee LaHuffman- Jackson as the recipient of this year's dissertation award.Renee's dissertation title: "An Analysis of the Impact of Working Condition on Teacher Turnover in Low- Performing Schools in North Carolina" focused on teacher job satisfaction in low performing schools using the Teacher Working Condition survey. The TWC is administered annually to North Carolina teachers. Dr. LaHuffman- Jackson is principal at Lake Rim Elementary Schools in Cumberland County.
