BUILDING EVACUATION PROCEDURES


bullet When the fire alarm is activated, evacuation is mandatory, even if you don't smell smoke.
bullet Do not use elevators!
bullet Take personal belongings (keys, purses, wallets, etc.).
bullet Follow directions given by your building's Emergency Coordinator.
bullet Assist persons with disabilities.

bullet Do not physically confront a person.
bullet Do not let anyone into a locked building/office.
bullet Do not block the person's access to exit.
bullet Call 911 0r 672-1295.

SUSPICIOUS OBJECT/PACKAGE


bullet Do not touch or disturb the object or package.
bullet Call 911 0r 672-1295.
bullet Notify your supervisor and/or the building's Emergency Coordinator.

BOMB THREAT


bullet Remain calm.
bullet Get as much information as possible from a threatening caller - location of explosive device, when the device was planted, etc.
bullet Call 911 0r 672-1295.
bullet Follow instructions of emergency personnel.

FIRE


bullet Help remove those needing assistance from the immediate area.
bullet Activate the nearest fire alarm pull station and call 911 or 672-1295 if possible.
bullet Confine the fire by closing windows and doors.
bullet Extinguish the fire if you have been trained and it is safe to do so.
bullet Evacuate the building.
bullet Do not enter the building until authorized to do so by emergency personnel.

WEATHER EMERGENCY


bullet For up-to-date weather information:
- Monitor local radio and television stations
- Check the conditions on campus on the FSU website -- www.uncfsu.edu
bullet Be prepared to shelter in place until you're notified by Fayetteville State University officials that it's safe to leave; have a plan for getting back together with fellow employees.
bullet During thunderstorms, do not handle electrical equipment.
bullet During hurricanes or under tornado warnings:
- Seek shelter
- Stay away from windows; move to an interior hallway on a lower floor
- Get under sturdy furniture
bullet During floods:
- Do not walk through flowing water or drive through flooded areas
- Stay away from electrical lines

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS


bullet Know your building's Emergency Coordinator and the evacuation procedure for your area
bullet Emergency preparedness kits should be maintained by residents, commuters, and staff.
bullet Get a battery-operated weather radio.
bullet Discuss preparedness plans with family and friends.
