Dr. Phyllisa Deroze, Assistant Professor of English, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholars Grant to United Arab Emirates, near Dubai.  Dr. Deroze's research interests are early Twentieth Century African American drama, contemporary Black women's drama, Francophone playwrights, and Black women characters in American drama.

During her time as a Fulbright Scholar, she will have the unique opportunity of teaching courses in Black women's drama.  This past year, Dr. Deroze taught Global Understanding courses at FSU as part of the university's educational partnership with China and traveled to China during the summer of 2012 in preparation for building the courses.

Dr. Deroze holds a BA in English from Florida State University, an MA in Africana Studies from the University at Albany, S.U.N.Y, and an MA and PhD in English from Pennsylvania State University.
