FSU Senate Resolution 2/19/09

Regarding the 2009 revision of FSU’s RTP Policy Document

Whereas, FSU’s current RTP Policy Document (entitled Tenure and Promotion Policies, Regulations and Procedures of Fayetteville State University) was put into effect on 7/1/2007 without providing for full review by the faculty prior to its enactment; and

Whereas, this document specifies that these policies are to be reviewed at least every five years; and

Whereas, the process for making revisions in FSU’s RTP Policy Document in response to changes in the UNC Code mandated by the UNC Board of Governors did not allow for a potential response to faculty concerns about aspects of policy that were not affected by the BOG Code mandates; and

Whereas, the changes that have been made in response to the mandated UNC Code changes are acceptable, and an updated RTP Policy Document is to be submitted to UNC General Administration by 3/1/09;

The Faculty Senate of Fayetteville State University resolves to approve the draft of the revised RTP Policy Document transmitted by Provost Young on 2/2/09, and distributed to the faculty by the Senate Chair on 2/4/09.

Furthermore, the Senate requests that Senate Committee for Faculty Evaluation and Development initiate a process immediately to identify remaining faculty concerns with FSU’s RTP Policy Document, and in conjunction with the Provost, specify additional amendments to this document which are to be considered by the Senate at its regular meeting on 2/18/2010.
