Mission
The mission of the Office of Faculty Development is to use a holistic approach to provide support
to faculty, promote student-centered learning, enhance teaching and
learning effectiveness, support research, and encourage the scholarship
of teaching and learning to enhance instruction and student learning.
To accomplish our mission, the Office of Faculty Development will provide a range of services, consultations, resources, and programs geared towards:
- Enhancing the professional development of faculty
- Encouraging the development and support of a community of
teacher scholars that fosters the dissemination of the theory and
practice of teaching and learning
- Assisting faculty in acquiring knowledge about and in the
application of instructional strategies, assessment practices, and
technology application
- Encouraging innovative approaches in teaching
- Supporting faculty and academic units in adopting, developing,
implementing, and assessing appropriate instructional methods used in
teaching
- Advocating the adoption of appropriate technology and
encouraging their effective and efficient use in enhancing the teaching
and learning process
- Building a support structure for faculty at the various levels of their professional experience
- Developing and nurturing an environment that recognizes and rewards faculty for their scholarship and excellence in teaching
- Focusing on student-centered learning as essential in accomplishing the teaching and learning mission of the university
- Communicating internal and external professional development opportunities and grants to faculty.
