Biography
Robert Weston Williams, baritone, is a native of Newberry, South Carolina. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he studied with Dr. James Arthur Williams, and the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in vocal performance and choral conducting respectively from the University of South Carolina where his teachers included Dr. Donald Gray and Dr. Larry D. Wyatt. He has been a featured soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana, Gaul’s The Holy City, Handel’s Messiah with several groups, and is a founding member of Long Leaf Opera. Dr. Williams has sung leading or supporting roles in operas including The Consul, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Treemonisha, The Medium, and Susannah. His musical theater credits include Sophisticated Ladies, The Most Happy Fella, and Hello Dolly! He has been a featured soloist with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra on several occasions. He spent a month in Rome, Italy in 2003 and 2005 as a featured artist at Operafestival di Roma. Dr. Williams is frequently a soloist at various church and civic events. As an educator, he is an Associate Professor of Music at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and he teaches voice at The Snyder Music Academy also in Fayetteville. Additionally, Dr. Williams serves on the board of directors of several arts and civic organizations in the Fayetteville area. |
