The institution has approximately 80% of its student population comprising commuter and non-traditional students; 69% are females and 42% are at least 24 years old. The FICAMS program provides academic curricula (through the development of web-based courses) and enrichment opportunities (involving undergraduate research, learning communities and web-based resource portal) that would encourage and enable minority students to complete baccalaureate degrees in Natural Sciences, Math and Computer Science and to enter the STEM workforce.

The FICAMS program aims at the development of 16 web-based gateway courses; enrollment, retention and graduation of 16 minority students and women; improved professional development of 8 STEM faculty; functional integrated web-based resource portal; established faculty-student learning community; and improved academic achievement and research skills of 16 STEM majors
