In Memoriam

The FSU family would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. James L. Fleming, husband of Dr. Valeria P. Fleming, professor in the Department of Natural Sciences. 

Visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, 2008 from 6:30 – 7:30pm at Paye Funeral Home (address below).  The funeral will be held at 12:00 noon at College Heights Presbyterian Church, 1801 Seabrook Road in Fayetteville.

Broncos Finish Second at Carolina Sands

The Fayetteville State University men’s golf team finished second in team competition shooting a 294 on the day at the 2008 Carolina Sands Intercollegiate hosted by UNC Pembroke at the Carolina Sands Golf Club on Sunday.

Coker College took home the tournament title. On the second hole of a sudden death playoff Coker’s Trey Bridwell captured the individual medalist honor with an eight-foot putt for birdie, scoring a three-under-par 69.

Senior Ian Milne (71) finished under-par at the 6,925-yard, par-72 course, helping lead the Broncos to a team total of 294. Fayetteville State finished one stroke ahead of third place Carson-Newman (295). Catawba finished a stroke behind Carson-Newman at 296 and Tusculum rounded out the top-five finishers with a 297.

Sophomores Kevin Lyles and Joel Lynn tied for 19th in individual competition along side Jerel Whiting of Virginia State University, Colby Hyduke of Newberry College, and Pete Skirpstas of Mount Olive College with each shooting 74.

Junior Derek Scott and sophomore Jeremy Ringled tied for 24th with a 75 to round out the FSU competitors.

This weekend was a tune up for the Broncos before they head to Richmond, VA for the 10th Annual CIAA Eastern Division Tournament. The tournament will be hosted by Virginia Union University at the Lake Chesdin Golf Club on April 9-11.
