Announcements
for Monday, August 27, 2007
from Theressa
Graham, Human Resources
Chief Jerry Monroe of the Police Department has been approved to receive
donations under the shared leave program. The intent of the program is to give
leave earning employees an opportunity to assist others during prolonged
illnesses.
Chief Monroe illness has caused him to exhaust all of his available leave,
resulting in a loss of income.
As stated in the policy, non-family members may donate vacation or bonus leave
only. If you wish to assist him, please email Ms. Theressa Graham (tgraham1@uncfsu.edu)
indicating the number of hours you wish to donate. You may also visit the Human
Resources Office, W.R Collins Administration Wing room 220, no later than August
27,2007, to complete the necessary form. The minimum allowable donation is four
(4) hours. Be further aware that the maximum amount of vacation leave allowed to
be donated by an employee can be no more than the annual amounts that can be
accrued by the donating employee, provided that such donation does not reduce
the donating employee’s leave balance below one-half of the amount accrued
annually.

Fayetteville State
University is one of 12 sites hosting a University of North Carolina Community
Listening Forum this fall and will be the fourth stop on a statewide tour.
The listening forums are an outgrowth of the UNC Tomorrow initiative established
in March 2007 by the UNC General Administration and UNC Board of Governors.
The purpose of the initiative, under the direction of UNC President Erskine
Bowles and Board of Governors Chairman Jim Phillips, is to identify ways in
which the UNC campuses can improve economic and workforce development in
communities throughout the state.
President Bowles, Chairman Phillips, and members of a statewide blue-ribbon
commission will be coming to the Greater Fayetteville area on September 12, 4 –
7 pm, at the FSU Seabrook Auditorium to listen to citizens from this part of the
state. Specifically, they want to hear about the community’s most important
challenges and how the universities in the region can help address these
challenges through academic programs, public service, outreach programs,
economic opportunities, and workforce-development activities.
In addition to the listening forums, a survey for gathering feedback from the
individuals has also been developed and is available online at
www.surveymonkey.com/nctomorrow.
The focus of the survey is to determine the community’s level of interest in the
job market, public K-12 education, continuing education, higher education, an
educated workforce, health care, the environment, energy costs, crime rates,
poverty rates, and government and community involvement. The survey
responses will allow the universities to better respond to community and
statewide needs.
The public is invited to attend the listening forum at FSU or any of the other
sites throughout the state and take the online survey to share their views on
how the UNC campuses can best serve their communities and the state. For
more information, call UNC GA at (910) 962-4231 or FSU at (910) 672-2175, or
visit www.nctomorrow.org or
www.uncfsu.edu/unctomorrow/index.htm.
