REMINDER: Last Day to Donate

from Theressa Graham, Human Resources

Ms. Shameika McArthur of the Early Childhood Department has been approved to receive donations under the shared leave program.  The intent of the program is to give leave earning employees an opportunity to assist others during prolonged illnesses.

Ms. McArthur's illness has caused her to exhaust all of her available leave, resulting in a loss of income.

As stated in the policy, non-family members may donate vacation or bonus leave only.  If you wish to assist her, please e-mail Ms. Theressa Graham (tgraham1@uncfsu.edu) indicating the number of hours you wish to donate.  You may also visit the Human Resources Office, Smith Hall room 204, no later than August 19, 2008, to complete the necessary form.  The minimum allowable donation is four (4) hours.  Be further aware that the maximum amount of vacation leave allowed to be donated by an employee can be no more than the annual amounts that can be accrued by the donating employee, provided that such donation does not reduce the donating employee’s leave balance below one-half of the amount accrued annually.

Five Lady Broncos Highlight the All-CIAA Volleyball Pre-Season Team

from Adrian Ferguson, Sports Information Office

Watch team presentations during Live Webcast on Tuesday, August 19.

The CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association selected its 2008 All-CIAA Volleyball Pre-Season Team.  Five of the seven returning Lady Broncos were named to the team.  Four of the five honorees were members of the 2007 All-CIAA Team.  Last season, Fayetteville State University went undefeated in conference play.  The Lady Broncos won its third CIAA crown in school history (1996, 1998) and received an automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.

Top returning star and 2007 Player of the Year, Chekimbrell Jefferson, leads this year's preseason team; boasting the top slot in two conference statistical categories (.379 hitting pct., 114 kills, 4.17 kpg.), Jefferson, who plays at the middle hitter and blocker position, is classified as a Junior and a psychology major.  Her hometown is Laurinburg, NC.

Seniors Heather Chance and Shatia Gidrey were named to the pre-season team and will be the only elder leaders on the Lady Broncos team. Chance is a right-side hitter from Dallas, TX with a concentration in elementary education.  She was on the All-CIAA team last season.  Gidrey is a utility player from Jacksonville, NC, studying mathematics.

Sophomores Samantha Meeks and Achari Mainor will also highlight the pre-season team as members of the ’07 All-CIAA Team. Samantha Meeks is an outside hitter, who ranked within the top 10 category of Digs amongst the CIAA.  She is also an elementary education major and a native of Laurinburg, NC.  Achari Mainor, a setter, hales from Antioch, CA and is studying psychology.  Mainor was the top assists leader amongst the CIAA with a total of 916 assists and an average of 9.16 per game.

Head Coach Elorine Hill, the 2007 CIAA Volleyball Coach of the Year, has added solid depth to the team and expects nothing less than a repeat in 2008.  The Lady Broncos will have a photo and webcasting session on Tuesday, August 19, at 1:00 p.m.  Surf to http://fsubroncos.cstv.com/webcasts.html to watch individual presentations of each student-athlete.
