HBCU Power Party Tour Comes to FSU

The Student Activities Council and VISION Student Leadership Program will host the HBCU Power Party on Friday, February 4, at 2:00 p.m. in the Shaw Auditorium.  All FSU students are encouraged to attend this one-of-a-kind party set in an atmosphere alive with incense, candles, aromatherapy, “peace and love.”

The widely popular tour is facilitated by speaker Fox Rich.  Ms. Rich draws from her own life’s experience of overcoming imprisonment and facing a possible sentence of 297 years, to empower young people.  Grammy award-winner Erykah Badu says of the motivational speaker, “Fox Rich’s strong spirit is contagious,” and Judge Greg Mathis says, “This Sister’s story is empowering for all.”

Lunch Buddies to Meet

Lunch Buddies for Luther “Nick” Jeralds Middle School will meet on Wednesday, February 2, 2005.  We will meet in front of the Barber Administration Building at 11:45 a.m.  If anyone needs transportation, please call me at extension 1867.  We are looking forward to seeing you.

Rookie of the Week Honors

Fayetteville State guard, Phillippe Harris received the CIAA Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending January 29, 2005.  In three games this week, Harris made nine 3-pointers and averaged 12.6 points and 2.6 rebounds.  In the Broncos’ win over Saint Paul’s College, Harris knocked down four 3-pointers on his way to a season high 18 points.  In the six games in which Harris has started and the six games he has scored in double figures, the Broncos have won.


Xclusive Gentlemen Society Spring Interest Meeting

The Xclusive Gentlemen Society (XGS) of FSU will hold their official Spring Interest Meeting on Thursday, February 3, at 8pm in the Student Center (Room 236).  Any male student is invited and encouraged to come find out more information on XGS and receive information on membership.

The Xclusive Gentlemen Society is an organization for males desiring to reconstruct the stereotypical image of males through our four principles.  Our characteristics shall be best exemplified through excellence endeavoring to inspire brotherhood, leadership, and service among our peers.  Each of our members' knowledge, perspective, and energy will be directed towards our common goal.  For more information, please contact Mr. Willie Lockett at extension 1439.

The Office of Training & Staff Development is pleased to welcome Ms. Norma Thompson Hollis, the Founder and CEO of SPEAKERS ETCETERA, to our campus to present the “3 P’s of Public Speaking”.  This workshop is designed to assist in making presentations, speaking in meetings, communicating effectively, understanding the purpose of personal speaking styles as well as building the proper content to any subject.  All will leave this session with valuable and useful information.  Sign up for the morning or afternoon session!

Total Woman Speaker Series

The Center For Personal Development at Fayetteville State University is sponsoring a “Total Woman Speaker Series”.  We have invited several female speakers from the local and campus community to come and share with female students information that will help equip them with essential life skills to be successful in society. 

February 2, 2005, Miss Tiffany Adams, graduating senior and President of the National Council for Negro Women, will speak at the opening session.

February 8, 2005, Ms. Deidre Blue, Cumberland County Magistrate, will speak on the topic, “Women and The Law”.

February 17, 2005, Mrs. Carol Forte, Counselor with Cumberland County Mental Health, will speak on the topic, “Love and Dating”.

These programs will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. at the Center For Personal Development Conference Room (Located in the Spaulding Building).  Please keep in mind that there will be other speakers scheduled throughout the months of February, March, and April.  Please stay tuned for future postings.
