This e-mail letter is evidence of how the scholarship generated from CHSS is
influencing international development policy around the world.
Dear Sir:
My name is Ben Waugh and I’m writing to you on behalf of a project funded by the
UK Department for International Development (DFID). We have been asked to
gather evidence concerning the role of communications in development, and to
make this readily available on the Internet.
The evidence will be presented in a way that appeals to policy makers from five
different sectors identified by the project – agriculture, education, health,
governance and growth. Our primary target group is research assistants and
others involved with the background work that influences the forming of policy.
This is one of a number of projects that DFID is currently funding under their
programme on information and communication for development, and we are in
contact with a number of multi-lateral donor groups (e.g. UN and DAC), to make
sure that the web portal will be of value to the wider community of interest.
We are currently in the process of compiling the evidence and would like to
refer to a document on your site.

We believe that this document is valuable to the project and would like to
include it on our portal. However, we are keen to go about it in the right
way. In designing the portal, we are proposing:
- to upload documents to the independent portal site;
- to include a link to the original document URL, so that users can then explore
the host site, and as accreditation.
Thanks for your assistance; we would greatly appreciate your response and any
other comments you might have.
Ben Waugh
