Dr. Aminifu Harvey Appointed to the UNC Tomorrow Scholars Council

from Marsha McLean, Chancellor's Office

Dr. Aminifu Harvey, Professor of Social Work at FSU, is one of 14 scholars appointed to the recently established University of North Carolina Tomorrow Scholars Council. Dr. Harvey, who was selected among over 60 nominees, is a renowned professor, scholar, and clinician in the area of social work. (See bio at http://www.uncfsu.edu/sw/fac/bioHarvey.htm)

The Scholars Council is a made up of faculty from across the UNC system that will provide expertise and guidance to the University of North Carolina Tomorrow Commission and leadership team at UNC General Administration to achieve the UNC Tomorrow goals.

UNC Tomorrow is a system-wide initiative focusing on the needs of the state from an economic- and workforce-development perspective. Each of the 16-constitutent institutions is actively engaged in this effort. Specifically, the goal of UNC Tomorrow is to produce a more proactively responsive university system focused on meeting the challenges of the state over the next 20 years. To achieve this goal, the UNC institutions must answer three basic questions:

1. What challenges facing our state do North Carolinians want UNC to respond to?
2. How can UNC best respond to these challenges?
3. How can UNC sustain this focus over the long-term?

By spring 2008, the system-wide assessment will be completed, resulting in the identification and recommendations for programs and activities that will efficiently and effectively fulfill the UNC three-pronged mission of education, research and scholarship, and public service in the 21st century.
