Announcements
for Friday, June 6, 2008
from H. Jay Blauser,
Facilities Management
Due to ongoing renovations, crews are scheduled to remove hazardous materials
from the Collins Building (2nd floor: rooms 216, 235-238) starting on Sunday,
June 8, 2008. These spaces will be isolated/sealed off from the rest of
the building, which can remain occupied and operate as usual. The
hazardous materials in these spaces, which contain asbestos, include: floor
tiles and floor tile mastic (glue).
As usual, our standard operating procedure is to have a certified industrial
hygienist onsite to monitor the process, as well as to test air samples in and
around the project areas/buildings. This monitoring is required to ensure
all work is being done in accordance with EPA, NC-OSHA, and NC Health Hazard
Control Unit’s stringent procedures. These procedures are the most
stringent in the nation for this type of work in both occupied and unoccupied
buildings. This action is taken to ensure everyone’s safety.
We regret any inconvenience that may occur as a result of this renovation
activity. Thanks in advance for your patience.
FYI: A Q&A session can be scheduled if desired. Please contact Jay
Blauser at extension 1954 or by e-mail at
hblauser@uncfsu.edu for questions/concerns.
