2011-2012 Campus-Wide Community Service Projects

For the second year in a row Fayetteville State University was named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service.  The Honor Roll recognizes higher education institutions that reflect the values of exemplary community service and achieve meaningful outcomes in their communities.  Our selection to the Honor Roll is recognition from the highest levels of the federal government of the University's commitment to service and civic engagement on campus and in our nation.

It is clear that FSU does a lot of good in our community and we want to do more.  Listed below are campus-wide activities for this academic year.  If you would like to participate, make sure you contact our campus community relations intern, Wesley Fountain at 910-672-1658 or

PINK ZONE BASKETBALL GAME
February 18, 2012 (5 p.m., Capel Arena FSU v. Shaw)
The WBCA Pink Zone initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA’s nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.  The FSU family including alumni and friends of FSU are asked to make a donation to the Donice Harbor Endowment.

An FSU graduate, Donice was the Director of Faith & Citizens Outreach for North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue at the time of her death in July 2009.  Donice was 36.  Shortly before her death, Donice and her mother started an endowment fund at FSU.  These funds will provide scholarships for students with an interest in public service.

Checks should be made payable to FSU with the words "Harbor Endowment" in the memo line.

heroes

Fayetteville created HEROES HOMECOMING as our way of showing all Vietnam Veterans we remember and appreciate their courage, their sacrifice and everything they’ve done to defend our freedom – now and forever. As America’s First Military Sanctuary Community, we will give our brave Vietnam Veterans the welcome they so richly deserve. Fayetteville will host the Heroes Homecoming as the biggest commemoration/reunion of its kind for the 10 days leading up to Veterans Day 2011, featuring celebrations, discussions, fellowship, and memories for all those who attend.  More information at www.heroeshomecoming.com.
