Government Relations at Fayetteville State University

For over 130 years, Fayetteville State University has offered educational opportunities to underserved populations and served as an engaged stakeholder in the southeastern region of North Carolina. The institution has been a leader in training educational administrators and teachers that have served the state of North Carolina and throughout the United States.  Our alumni provide public service to this community as elected officials, doctors, lawyers, non-profit leaders, and business industry leaders.  Maintaining this legacy requires a mix of resources that includes support from the state and the federal government and its agencies.

What is Government Relations?

Government relations is the practice of influencing decisions made by government in groups and individually.  It is the responsibility of this office to ensure that North Carolina's officials and officials around the nation utilize the considerable expertise available here at the University, are aware of what and who we are, guarantee the University has a voice in policy development related to higher education and research, and to promote more targeted opportunities to share our knowledge and research expertise with the government.

It is also the responsibility of staff to:

Promote the University’s state legislative request and monitor the political environment of the state.
Coordinate the University’s national agenda by interacting with Congress, the executive branch, and national education policy groups.
Strengthen the University's connections to local governments and campus neighbors; and engage neighbors in the planning process at the University.
Elevate the level of support the University receives from the public, from supporters, alumni, faculty, staff and students alike.
