Graduate Council Standing Committees
Description of Duties 

Academic Policy and Evaluation

This standing committee is charged with the responsibility of examining the rules and policies pertaining to graduate education at FSU.  It makes recommendations for new policies and rules and it provides recommendations for needed changes about standards and requirements pertaining to dissertation, thesis and standardized tests.  It evaluates proposals from programs and departments about changes in their graduation program policies.

Executive Committee

This standing committee is charged with the responsibility of examining appeals by students with regard to grade dispute, grievance with faculty, and other matters which require the attention of the executive committee as determined by the Dean of the Graduate School.  The committee is also charged with the responsibility of making recommendations on future directions of the Graduate School with regard to research and programs.

Graduate Admissions Committee

The committee is charged with the responsibility of making recommendations regarding admission standards, requirements and procedures for admission to the Graduate School to the Council.  It reviews and makes recommendations on graduate student grade appeal and for students asking to be reinstated into the graduate program after expulsion from graduate programs

Graduate Faculty Review Committee

This committee reviews and makes recommendations on persons applying for Graduate Faculty Status and presents it to the Council for approval.

Program and Curriculum Committee

The standing committee is charged with the responsibility of reviewing existing and proposed programs.  It is also responsible for reviewing curriculums and evaluating programs.  It makes recommendations regarding programs and curriculums to the Graduate Council.

Grievance Committee

This committee is charged with dealing with all matters of grievance brought before the Council.

Student Affairs Committee

This committee is charged with the responsibility of dealing with graduate student activities inside and outside of the University.  The committee advises the graduate student association and ensures the inclusion of student opinions and perspectives in the Council decision making process.
