Greeting from the Director

Welcome to the Honors and Global Scholars Program.  Honors is a component of the FSU Global Scholars Community and the University College, and serves as an enrichment program for the educational experiences of students by providing academically-challenging and high-quality educational experiences.  Honors targets high-ability students and offers them opportunities to pursue a rigorous curriculum of honors courses and to obtain leadership skills through service learning in various academic and public communities.

During your time in the Honors and Global Scholars Program at FSU, you will be offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to study abroad; to participate in internships with leading organizations in business, government, and public service; to serve as scholar assistants with leading faculty in your field of study; to participate in student-to-student leadership mentoring; to hear distinguished speakers; to do international travel and research; and to interact with students from other cultures.

Ask us about Honors in the Major (HIM) component, which requires twenty-one to twenty-four hours of honors courses, three hours of which must be Sociology 150, Global Society.  HIM admits students who have demonstrated academic excellence by earning a minimum of twelve semester credit hours, and have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.2.  Transfer students who have not earned more than sixty semester credit hours are also eligible to apply to the Honors Program.

Unlike some traditional honors courses, our Honors courses are not designated honors courses.  Our students enroll in regular major courses and complete a contract approved by the course instructor and the Honors director.  Students who complete the Honors requirements graduate with Honors Program distinction on their transcripts and receive an Honors medallion to wear at commencement.

Again, welcome to the Honors program.  Honors applications (available on our Web site) are due each spring.  We hope you will join us.
