During your time in the Honors Program at FSU, you will be faced with tremendous opportunities - once-in-a-lifetime chances to study abroad; to participate in internships with leading organizations in business, government, and public service; to serve as scholar assistants with leading faculty in your field of study; to participate in student-to-student leadership mentoring; and to do international travel and research. However, with those opportunities come responsibilities.
The Honors in the Major program requires thirty hours of honors courses, twelve of which come from the University College. The new program admits FSU students who have demonstrated academic excellence by earning a minimum of twelve semester credit hours, and have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.3. Transfer students who have not earned more than sixty semester credit hours are also eligible to apply to the program.
At the heart of the Honors experience is the opportunity to take honors courses in the major. Thirty hours of honors courses in the major are required for students to graduate with honors distinction. You will have the opportunity to enroll in classes for honors credit and complete additional assignments in regular classes, based on a contract approved by the honors staff and faculty member. This roadmap directs you from your first semester in honors through our honors ceremony when you graduate with honors distinction upon completion of your degree requirements.
Periodic consultations with the honors staff, your faculty, your honors counselors, your research advisor, and mentor will also be very significant. We are eager to assist if you have additional questions.
