Mr. Derwin SheppardDerwin R. Sheppard, Lecturer in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Human Services. He received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from FSU and his Master of Science in Physical Education (Adapted) from North Carolina A&T State University.  His hometown is Syracuse, NY.  He was the Health and Physical Education Department Chair and Athletic Director at Welborn Middle School in High Point from 2004-2007.  He taught at Westover Middle School as a Health and Physical Education Teacher from 1999-2001.  He was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at North Carolina A&T State University from 2002-2004. His contributions are as follows:

  • Implemented Golf Unit into Physical Education Curriculum in Westover and Welborn middle schools in NC
  • Started golf teams interscholastic participation
  • Participated in Special Olympics from 2001 to 2006 in Guilford County, NC
  • Mentor for at risk middle school males

His interests are recreation and leisure studies, Adapted Physical Education, recreational activities for mentally and physically challenged youth and adults, and physical fitness for the elderly.  His current plans are to obtain health certificate from UNC-CH and to attend and obtain a Ph.D. degree from North Carolina State University in Recreation and Tourism
