Department of Health Physical Education and Human Services

Dr. Frank Merchant, Jr., is an Associate Professor of Health, Physical Education and Human Services in the School of Education’s Department of Health, Physical Education, and Human Services at Fayetteville State University. He has served as Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Human Services at Fayetteville State University for twenty-nine years, 1978-2007. Two years, 2004-2006, he served as chairperson for the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Human Services. Dr. Merchant also serves as Supervisor of Student Teachers in Health and Physical Education, 1978-2007. He also coached football (Defensive Coordinator) 1978-79 and 1988-98.

Before joining Fayetteville State University January 4, 1978, Dr. Merchant was the chairperson in the Department of Health Education for the School of Education at Florida International University for six years. He was also the Assistant Baseball Coach.  He served as Head Football and Baseball Coach/Instructor in Health and Physical Education at Morehouse College for four years from 1967-1971. He served as History Instructor and Head Football and Track and Field Coach from 1962-1967 at Monroe High School.
