Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund is the cornerstone of philanthropic support at Fayetteville State University. An Annual Fund gift supports our students, faculty, and programs and is the most direct way to make a positive impact on the educational experience.
Your gift goes to work immediately to help provide support for the university’s greatest needs, including student scholarships, facilities improvements, as well as academic and programmatic initiatives. Added together, Annual Fund gifts have a tremendous effect on our budget.
- Why does my participation matter?
Making an annual gift every year makes a statement to corporations and foundations, and college ranking publications that you believe in Fayetteville State University’s mission and support the unique educational experience that it provides. Your annual gift provides vital support to the immediate operating budget of FSU and helps to ensure that many of the departments, programs, teams, and faculty get the funds they need to provide a college experience of the highest quality while maintaining a balanced budget.
- May I choose where I want my gift to go?
Annual Fund gifts made without restriction give us the flexibility to use the money where it is needed most. However, you may designate your Annual Fund gift to an area of support that is most important to you. A few of your options include the following:
- Annual Fund (Unrestricted gift)
- General Scholarship Fund
- Athletics
- College of Humanities & Social Sciences
- School of Business & Economics
- School of Education
- When does FSU ask for support?
Solicitations begin in early September and end in early June. Making your gift by December 31 provides a year-end tax advantage for you and saves the cost of sending additional mailings.
- What is the difference between making a gift to FSU and the NAA or Athletic Club?
Dues paid and/or donations given to the National Alumni Association or the FSU Athletic Club are not gifts to the university. These groups are independent organizations designed to foster a spirit of good will and loyalty among alumni and friends of FSU.
- Is my gift tax-deductible?
Most gifts are tax deductible. Once we receive and deposit your gift, we will send you an acknowledgement letter to verify that your gift has been received. This letter also serves as a receipt for your tax purposes.
- How do I make my gift?

- If you would like for your gift to be recognized as a member of an alumni chapter or as a member of a particular graduating class, please note the name of your chapter or class year on the memo line of your check or on the gift envelope. You are still able to designate your gift to the fund of your choice. The Office of Development will track these gifts in order to provide recognition to each alumni chapter.
- Will my company match my gift?
Contact your Human Resources office to see if your organization or company matches charitable gifts to FSU. If so, they can provide you with the form(s) you need to fill out and send to Office of Development, 1200 Murchison Rd., Fayetteville, NC 28301.
If your employer offers a matching gift program you may be able to double or even triple your gift to FSU!
