Campaign Update - 5/1/2008

FSU Alumni Raise the Bar
Mr. & Mrs. Theodore and Diane DeBose ‘84 are celebrating a 40th anniversary this year! In honor of their lifelong commitment to one another, the DeBose Family has committed to support the future of our youth by establishing The DeBose Endowed Scholarship Fund. The DeBose Scholarship Fund will support students from underrepresented populations who intend to study Business Administration with the intent of pursuing a degree at FSU’s Marion “Rex” Harris School of Business and Economics. Scholarship recipients will support young men and women who have a proven record and desire to become entrepreneurs.
Mr. DeBose: “Business Leader’s such as Mr. Marion “Rex” Harris have played a vital role in the success of our community. We need more positive role models like Mr. Harris, earning money and respecting the principles of focus and discipline. This year we have decided to make a commitment to take a first step by establishing a scholarship to encourage youth to raise their expectations and strive for greatness. As alumni, we are setting the stage for future industry leaders. As a family, we are showing Fayetteville State University students that we can make a difference by participating in the university Annual Fund. It is important that Fayetteville State University students receive an exceptional education that prepares them for our ever-changing world of technology.”
Would you like to make a gift to the DeBose Endowed Scholarship Fund? If so, you can make a secure gift online by visiting: www.uncfsu.edu/ia/development/giving or send a check made payable to the FSU Foundation with a memo line notation stating the DeBose Endowed Scholarship Fund to the following address:

Bronco Legacy Circle Update

Dr. Clarence E Lloyd, Jr. Joins Bronco Legacy Circle
Clarence Lloyd, Class of 1965, joined the Bronco Legacy Circle after accepting a challenge from a classmate to make a significant gift to the university. Dr. Lloyd, a loyal supporter of FSU science students who wanted to continue their education, was looking for a vehicle that would allow him to “give back” in a substantial way. Lloyd decided then to make a planned gift to the university though a whole life insurance policy, and became a member of the Bronco Legacy Circle.
Lloyd graduated from Fayetteville State University with a degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. After teaching biology, math, and other sciences in a Mt. Olive high school for one year, Lloyd decided to complete his masters at North Carolina Central University. Having received the Master of Science, he spent several years teaching biology and math at Livingstone College. In 1970, he entered medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, completing in 1974. After completing a one-year internship in Wilmington, NC, Dr. Lloyd began a three-year residency at Bowman-Gray Medical School in Winston-Salem, NC in radiology. Dr. Lloyd was the first minority to complete the program in radiology in 1978. He is board certified in the area of diagnostic radiology and became licensed in North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. After working in Clinton, NC for several years, Dr. Lloyd joined the medical team at L. Richardson Memorial Hospital in Greensboro in 1980. While serving in the Army Reserves in 1990, the hospital closed. Dr. Lloyd traveled the southeast, as a radiology expert, until joining the Veterans Administration in 1999. He maintains that position to this day. Dr. Lloyd has belonged to his local FSU alumni chapter and the Greensboro Triad Chapter for many years where he is an active participant. He is also a proud and active member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He belongs to several professional organizations: the Greensboro Medical Association, the National Medical Association, and the Old North State Medical Association.
Dr. Lloyd is active in his church, Providence Baptist Church in Greensboro. He has two sisters in North Carolina and three brothers who reside in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Delaware.
The Bronco Legacy Circle is a group that honors those who designate FSU as a beneficiary through planned giving. To become a member of the Bronco Legacy Circle, donors must indicate FSU as a beneficiary in their will or be a participant in a planned or deferred gift such as an annuity or charitable lead trust.

Please Note: As Fayetteville State University (FSU) prepares to meet the challenges of the 21st century, we know that the generosity of alumni and friends of the University will make the difference in our success. We want to ensure that our donors benefit from making a gift to FSU, and there are many ways to give that can improve a donor's financial and tax situation. While employees and representatives of the University may not provide specific tax or legal advice to donors or prospective donors, the staff in the Office of University Development may provide general non-binding information regarding potential tax and legal implications of proposed gifts. We also recommend that you seek professional legal and/or tax consultation as needed.
