Flag GhanaLocation: Ghana Course Offered: History 491 (3-3-0) Methods of Historical Research. This course is an introduction to conventional methods of historical research and to new techniques in oral history, family history, and quantitative history.

Estimated Timing: July 10 to July 26, 2006

Estimated Cost: $3,000, including fee for the Ghana Center for Democratic Development to coordinate the tour, salary fees of foreign faculty lecturing, room, Round-trip airfare from Raleigh, ground Transportation, admission fees to concerts, museums, etc, health insurance, and visa application.

June 27 Travel day from Raleigh to Ghana
June 28 Arrive in Ghana and have an orientation
June 29 Seminar on Ghanaian History and Culture, Professor Robert Addo-Fening
June 30 Visit the Arts Center, Nkrumah Mausoleum, and Accra Museum
July 1 Seminar on Ghana’s role in the Atlantic Slave Trade/ Visit the Cape Coast and Elmina Slave Castles, Dr. Akosua Perbi/Visit the National Park/This is an overnight trip
July 2 Return from the Cape Coast and Elmina Slave Castles
July 3 Leave to visit Kumasi and see the Manhyia Palace, Ahwiaa Woodworks, and the Bonyere Kente Weaving Village
July 4 Spend the day in Kumasi
July 5 Church service (optional); Return from Kumasi
July 6 Visit the W.E.B. DuBois Museum/Visit the Botanical Garden
July 7 Visit major/minor areas of study
July 8 Seminar on the Political and Economic Development of Ghana, Dr. Baffour Agyeman-Duah
July 9 Day Cruise on the Volta River
July 10 Open day (optional) Visit to the Beach
July 11 Travel Day, leave Ghana
July 12 Arrive in Raleigh
