As we move into the new millennium, our nation is
faced with the presence of unforeseen vulnerability and the
recognition that
now, more than ever, there is a need for global interdependence.
Our knowledge of the international scene and a global understanding
of issues of the world must become the focus of the University's
educational community.
Fayetteville State University is
currently initiating endeavors to make its mark in the international
arena. It is very important that students and graduates of the
University have the capacity to function in a complex and
increasingly interdependent global community.
As we seek to establish our mark in
this arena, our faculty must bring an international perspective to
bear on their disciplines. Faculty throughout campus need to
embed a global perspective on the curriculum. Both faculty and
students need to be comfortable with various cultures, and competent
at interacting with international colleagues on matters germane to
their respective disciplines.
We must endeavor to realize that the
people of this world are now virtual neighbors, as we are brought
into closer proximity by modern technologies. When we attain
understanding and appreciation of other people and cultures, we
enhance all aspects of our collective cultural, professional,
economic, and personal lives.
