The Charles Waddell Chesnutt Library is the central
research facility for Fayetteville State University and the surrounding community.
Named for Charles Waddell Chesnutt, who was the third president of the institution
and the first successful African-American novelist, the library is a four-level
contemporary building providing nearly 80,000 square feet of space, seating for
approximately 800 patrons, and a capacity for 500,000 volumes and over one million items
of microform. The library currently has in its holdings in excess of 192,000
volumes; 20,700 reels of microfilm; 631,000 pieces of microfiche; 2,769 periodicals; and
56 newspapers. It is also a selective depository for state and federal documents.
The Chesnutt Library meets the informational needs of the university community by offering
a variety of services and special features.
